Advertising and Debt

Being aware of advertising is essential in the battle against debt. We live in a world were commercialism reigns. "Look at how beautiful you will be in this" and "You will not be happy unless you have that". It is really a poison that many people fall sick to. (It being a poison if you really can not afford it) It is funny how so many people do not like being told what to do, teenagers especially, yet in reality its what advertising really does and all fall victim to it to some degree. To be a good advertiser, you have to make people think they need something but not that your telling them they need it. However the point of this article is not on how to become a good advertiser but rather to be aware of what advertising's affect on your wallet.

I find the people who find themselves in a debt trap have often gotten themselves into it by obviously spending more than they can afford. But why would someone cognitively go and do this? True could be it was a careless misunderstanding of what your bank account was looking like, or that you forgot there were other payments out there for the month. But for many, it was that they figured they could not live without a product or that it just tempted them to such a degree that they just "Needed to have it" or they "Owed themselves it" Yet what tempted them in the first place , advertising anyway?

Good advertising has a multiple effect, let me explain. If a company makes a product and it sells well from their initial advertising campaign, well suddenly everyone who has that product now is indirectly advertising for that product. A company loves this because of their ROI (Return on Investment) just increased without further help on their part. So if your neighbors have the fancy new garden accessory, or newly finished driveway, tile roof and you like neighbors, then your neighbors are indirectly advertising the product to you. So it is just good to be aware of the messages that the world can through at you. It is important to interpret each financial pull and put them in order of importance in your head. Sometimes just understanding why you might be desiring something can help you see it in a different light.

The Benefits of Holiday Travel Insurance

Tourism is a growing industry worldwide. So are undesirable things like terrorism, flight crashes, accidents, wars, disease, natural calamities etc. Any experienced traveler can tell you that travel is full of uncertainties. But it is not possible to sit at home afraid of calamities. Holiday travel insurance is one way of mitigating the financial risk of such unforeseen events or calamities.

There are a variety of holiday travel insurance policies available today on the internet or the market. It is easy to get confused with so many offers. However most holiday travel insurance policies have certain basic benefits which are common. Holiday travel insurance policies typically provide coverage for:

Trip cancellation / interruptions. Trip cancellation / interruptions due to a variety of reasons like death of an immediate family member, weather, sudden illness, bankruptcy of airliner, jury duty, terrorist activities etc.

Medical costs. Costs incurred for doctor visits, medicines, treatment, surgery etc and some policies even provide coverage for costs of medical evacuation to the nearest medical facility.

Accidents. Accidents or calamities like earthquakes, tsunami, storms etc and the related costs. Some policies also provide vehicle accident costs. These are especially useful when going for a driving holiday to a foreign country. Most of your regular policies for auto insurance only provide insurance within the United States and do not provide for accidents out of the US.

Baggage Loss. Costs incurred for loss of baggage and valuable is also covered by most travel insurance policies. These are especially useful when going out for a shopping holiday for antiques, valuables, jewelry or electronics.

All the above-mentioned costs are borne by the travel insurance company depending upon the travel insurance policy. Before purchasing the policy read the fine print carefully, especially the parts covering, deductibles, co-insurance, specific limits, exclusions, hotline numbers and emergency services. Purchasing a policy for a family works out cheaper. Purchasing a policy online also works out cheaper as you do not have to pay for the insurance agent.

Basic Photography Tips for Beginners

So, you’ve bought a camera. But there’s this teeny little problem about the whole thing: you don’t know the first thing about cameras or the principles it functions on! Not to worry though, this article is here precisely for that purpose. To guide you through the basics of photography without sounding like a lecture in Physics. First things first, the camera is basically a device that captures the scene in front of you, using the same principle that applies to your eyes. Light enters your eyes, passes through the lens and forms a image on the retina.

Now, just hold that thought and think about the following points:

• Aperture: This is nothing but the function of the camera that regulates the amount of light coming in the camera. Think of it as your iris which adjusts according to the light outside. Don’t you experience a blackout of sorts when you enter a dark room from a brightly lit area? That’s what happens when the aperture of the camera is inappropriately set. So, lower the light, higher the aperture.

• Exposure: This is the amount of light that is allowed to fall on the film/sensor. Not much to explain here, but the correct manipulation of exposure can do aesthetic wonders for your photographs. Exposing your sensor for a long period, results in, more light falling on your sensor, making your picture brighter.

• Shutter-Speed: Simple. The camera is your eye. The shutter is your eyelid. It’s that easy. How to adjust shutter speeds to get awesome effects? Keep it fast if you want stop-motion photos. For example, sweat jerking off a footballer’s forehead as he kicks the ball. Or, keep it slow if you want a blurry effect.

• Lens: Every camera has a lens. Digital, SLR, mobile phone, you name it. They are the basic components of the camera and can be very helpful in defining your particular style of photograph. If you’re a sports photographer, use a telephoto; for landscape, use wide angle and so on.

• Depth of field – could be used to describe sharp focused area in a photograph. We can shoot either way area focused is sharp focused and foreground and or background are blurred While we also choose to take a photo where every element is sharp and crystal clean

These were just the basics of photography. Though reading it doesn’t make you an expert, it sure will help you in understanding what those buttons on your DSLR are used for!
